Photo via Rick Scott / YouTube Senator Rick Scotts’ National Republican Senate Committee called police Democrats insane and dangerous in a new announcement released Wednesday.
The 30-second spot was scheduled as a preamble to President Joe Bidens’ speech on Wednesday afternoon on escalating crime, with executive orders expected.
The spot begins with a laconic narration from Scott.
Here’s the Democratic plan for America: Crime, Scott said, introducing footage of crowd violence on the streets filmed last summer as riots and protests rocked cities across the country.
The senator argues that Democrats have embraced the idea of funding the police, which is the dumbest idea ever, a position familiar to those who follow the Scotts media.
Police funding is already causing an increase in crime in cities across the Americas, Scott warned.
Recall that Democrats have adopted and are actively promoting a police funding program that makes communities across the country less secure, the statement accompanying the announcement advises.
Scott has made similar arguments since calls to re-prioritize law enforcement funding after the police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis last year.
The most ridiculous and irresponsible political idea that has been suggested in my lifetime can be summed up in three words: financing the police. And yet it is in fact discussed and debated as if there are pros and cons by those on the left. There is no benefit to funding the policy. There are no consistent arguments for this madness, Scott wrote in the Washington Examiner in June 2020.
The funding that police tropes return to NRSC messages appears to be a direct result of Biden’s messages about rising crime, especially in urban areas.
A Battlefield States survey commissioned by the NRSC and the Republican Governors Association that was touted this week did not address police funding, but covered topics such as critical race theory, COVID-19 Laboratory Leak Theory and the Mexican Border Crisis.
