A man forged his sick girlfriend’s signature on nearly 150 of his checks and wrote several to himself and his friend, authorities said.

Ross Miserendino, 55, of Lacey Township, and Enrique Roldan, 42, of Jackson, were charged this week with theft and Miserendino was also charged with theft, use of a counterfeit instrument, fraudulent use of ‘a credit card and misrepresentation by procuring a credit card issuance, according to a joint statement from Lacey Township Police and the Ocean County District Attorney’s Office.

An investigation by the agencies alleged that in 2019, Miserendino was helping his girlfriend, who was temporarily unable to manage her finances due to medical issues she was suffering from, and agreed to help by paying her bills for her, the office said. He had access to his checks and bank details.

Between 2019 and 2020, Miserendino signed the woman’s name without her consent on 146 checks totaling $ 171,000 and wrote the majority of them to Roldan, police said. Others have been written to himself, according to authorities. The couple then reportedly shared the proceeds of the theft.

Miserendino also stole $ 11,000 in personal property from his girlfriend’s Lacey Township home and obtained an American Express credit card in her name without her authorization, officials said. He used that card to make about $ 34,000 in charges, police said.

He was arrested and charged on Wednesday and Roldan was arrested and charged on Thursday, the office said. The couple were treated and released on summons pending a future court date.
