MARTIN O’NEILL insists Celtic fans went “way above” in their criticism of Neil Lennon last season.
Former Hoops boss Lenny has been named by furious supporters following the club’s shocking collapse ten times in a row.

The Celts were also humiliated in Europe and excluded from cup competitions by Ross County and the Rangers.
Former Captain Lennon paid the price for the nightmarish campaign by leaving the Parkhead hotseat in February.
Ange Postecoglou has now been tasked with rebuilding the club, but O’Neill warned punters would expect success from day one.
O’Neill – who has won seven trophies in five seasons at Celtic Park – told Optus Sport: “They have had nine years of great, great success. The last consecutive number of trophies has also been won by Celtic.

“And yet the minute they fell behind Rangers this season when they were probably expecting ten in a row, manager Neil Lennon’s criticism, I thought, was far exaggerated.
“And that was only when they were six or seven points behind and could easily catch up.
“So that didn’t materialize. Some righteous Celtic fans will say, ‘give it a chance.’
“But of course they are demanding. They expect success and they will probably want it quickly because they won’t want the Rangers to dominate the proceedings.”
O’Neill’s arrival from Leicester City in 2000 marked a major change in Scottish football after achieving a superb Treble in his first season.

And the Northern Irishman joked that Postecoglou is expected to have a similar impact this year.
He said: “What is he waiting for this season? Not much, just the Treble!
“He is expected to change things because I think there is a feeling Celtic are not that far behind Rangers.
“It really depends on what’s going on. Some of the great players are probably going to move on in the next few weeks.
“In one aspect, that might be fine with him because he might have the opportunity to bring in a player or two who he thinks could do the job for him.
“But the expectations will be high and it will be there immediately, unfortunately.”
