This letter is in response to Samantha Christmanns June 20 Baby Boomers, please stop ripping through the millennial column.
Not all baby boomers could drop out of high school and get into a factory job and get a job paying enough to support a family. Today’s equivalent of those service and retail jobs were not intended to support a family. The minimum wage was not created to support a family.
Millennials feel entitled because they went to college, so they deserve a high paying job. They want to start at the top. These are the high generations where everyone received a trophy. They just had to show up and they got one.
It’s not the baby boomers’ fault just because millennials went to college and found themselves with dead end, low-paying jobs while paying off record student loan debt. Did they take rigorous high school classes to qualify for the scholarships? Did they just get by with poor grades and found they weren’t prepared for the rigors of college and had to take an extra year or two to graduate. Was the degree in an employable field? Has the diploma even been obtained? Get a college degree in an employable field. Take out the fewest credits. Work while going to school. Pay as you go. Then you can achieve financial stability sooner, like us baby boomers. Millennials want it all. They find they can’t. Millennials have to live with the consequences of their choices. Stop playing the blame game!
