Vanderbilt AD condemns ‘racist slurs’ used at College World Series

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WKRN) The director of athletics at Vanderbilt University condemned “racist slurs” she said were hurled at parents of student-athletes during Monday night’s College World Series game.

In a series of tweets Tuesday morning on her official Twitter account, Candice Storey Lee said she was “deeply disturbed” by the insults and called them “absolutely unacceptable and shameful behavior”.

I am deeply disturbed that some of our student-athlete parents were subjected to racist slurs during last night’s game. This is absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful behavior, and such hateful language has no place in our society anywhere.

“There is no place for such hateful language in our society anywhere,” Storey Lee wrote.

She added, “To the family members who have been affected, please know that you have my full support… you have absolutely the wholehearted support of not only Vanderbilt Athletics, but the entire Commodore Nation.”

No details were released on the comments made to student-athlete parents.

Vanderbilt University defeated Mississippi State in the College World Series opener Monday night in Omaha, Nebraska.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m.
