Another day, another pass over the 2021 season from a CFL veteran.
This time it’s a big loss for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. By far the most important figure on the offensive line over the past eight seasons, Brendon LaBatte is set to accept a pass for 2021, unless any changes to strict COVID-19 protocols are required from the league.
LaBatte is not retiring and he has not lost his passion for football. But he and others say they are set to return in 2022 but are not interested in this season.
While we haven’t heard from LaBatte, general manager Jeremy ODay explained that if current policies are relaxed, LaBatte could return this year.
You see, players and staff are on lockdown all season. While Saskatchewan reopens, the Roughriders will be isolated. Stadium, home, stadium, home. No restaurants, no corndogs for Cody Fajardo at the fair, no weekends at the beach with your kids. NO – at least not to start the season.
With that, you should start to understand why so many players are accepting the 2021 CFL season.
