Twenty-nine other men allege abuse by former Ohio state doctor

A lawsuit filed on Monday against the state of Ohio in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio found 29 new plaintiffs alleged to have been abused by Dr. Richard Strauss between the early 1980s and 2000s .

A 2019 investigation determined that the state of Ohio was aware of Strauss’s repeated sexual abuse of students and took no action. At least 177 students were abused between 1979 and 1998, when Strauss retired from his post as a doctor in the sports department and student health center.

The university has publicly apologized for Strauss’s actions and has already settled with 185 plaintiffs for a total of around $ 47 million, according to reports.

A plaintiff in the most recent lawsuit alleged Strauss abused him both as a minor and as a student in the state of Ohio. He says it started when he was 16 at a high school wrestling tournament on the Ohio State campus. He then attended college and participated in both wrestling and football, and Strauss’s abuse is said to have continued.

Strauss committed suicide in 2005, and no one has come forward to defend him publicly since his victims began making their allegations.
