The Youth Akali Dal group led by President Parambans Singh Bunty Romana and former SAD MP Sarup Chand Singla on Tuesday criticized the office of Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal for alleged illegal mining on GNDTP lands here. The workers staged a protest outside the FM office.
Ghora Transport Association chairman Parvinder Singh said they were bringing sand from Pathankot after spending huge amounts of money on fuel. After Sarup Chand Singla alleged illegal sand mining, we all came here to see the reality on the ground only to find fly ash, he said.
Further, he said that the state government imposed a hefty fine of Rs 4 lakh on any vehicle involved in the sand mining so that no transporter could dare to get involved in this illegal activity. In addition, to extract the sand, a crusher and water were needed.
The former GNDTP estimated around 2.20 million tonnes of fly ash on 853 acres. Public and private thermal power plants provide free fly ash to three sectors: cement, brick kilns and buildings. – TNS
