Members of the Democratic caucus in Goshen are asking the state attorney general to investigate a fraud scheme involving former Orange County executive Ed Diana.

They are asking for a closer examination of Diana and two other members of the board of directors of the County Independent Development Agency.

All three pleaded guilty last week to lying about their jobs at a company contracted with IDA. Each was ordered to pay back more than a million dollars. “The Democratic caucus fully supports an investigation, sanctions and additional consequences to ensure this never happens again,” said Orange County Legislative Minority Leader James Kulisek.

Lawmakers are also calling for the impeachment of Republican lawmaker Steve Brescia. Brescia was removed from the IDA board after officials said he turned a blind eye to the illegal activity.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler responded to criticism from the Democratic caucus of the Industrial Development Agency case by saying, in part, we looked for cases of direct theft, the investigation did revealed no such theft, despite some critics who continue to claim otherwise. ”
