Hairspray is officially back in the West End, playing at the London Coliseum until September 29, 2021.
In the revival, Olivier Award-winning Michael Ball returns as Edna Turnblad opposite one of UK’s greatest comedians, Paul Merton, making his musical debut in the West End as Edna’s husband, Wilbur. Lizzie Bea plays the iconic role of Tracy Turnblad and Marisha Wallace plays Motormouth.

Let’s see what the reviews are saying …
Louise Penn, BroadwayWorld: Like Edna Turnblad and Motormouth Maybelle, Michael Ball and Marisha Wallace inhabit the roles they were surely born to (Ball returns to the first of his Olivier Award-winning concerts just as funny and tough as before). Wallace ended the show with his own standing ovation for “I Know Where I’ve Been”: a song that describes all the pain and resilience of his character.
Alun Hood, WhatsOnStage: Lizzie Bea is a whirlwind of energy and pathos with a clear voice and endlessly adorable as our heroine Tracy. Ball (returning to Edna after 14 years) and Dennis are utterly charming together, managing to make this odd couple figures of true affection, and there are invaluable contributions from Michael Vinsen as the host of flirtatious television, Georgia Anderson as Tracy’s arch nemesis, Mari McGinlay as flirty best friend, and Jonny Amies and Ashley Samuels as adorable singing and dancing love interests.
Marianka Swain, LondonTheatre.UK: The playoff performance comes from Marisha Wallace as Motormouth Maybelle, whose “I Know Where I’ve Been” starts out as an intimate, blues number, sung to her children, and turns into a big cry, bearing witness to his experiences and imploring the heavens for progress.
Greg Stewart, TheatreWeekly: We’ve been waiting for a very long time to see Lizzie Bea make her West End frontman debut, and every second is worth every second. Bea plays the part of Tracy Turnblad to perfection, aside from a stunning voice, Bea’s energy lights up the stage and the demanding role seems to be no problem for this talented performer.
