Postal worker pocketed $ 150,000 after lying on workers’ compensation forms, says federal government

A United States Postal Service worker who claimed she was injured on the job five years ago raised more than $ 150,000 by lying on her workers’ compensation forms, federal officials said.

Monique Gee, 38, of Hillside has repeatedly stated in disability documents that she does not earn any outside income, although investigators have learned that the shed makes substantial income operating a food truck in Jersey City , according to court documents filed by the United States Prosecutor’s Office.

Gee said he sprained his right knee on June 1, 2016 while working as a letter carrier in Middletown.

Shortly after filing a workers’ compensation claim, Gee started the business, prosecutors said. She got a license to operate it from the Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services and even advertised the food truck on social media.

Additionally, an undercover officer called Gee in February to discuss the possibility of placing orders with her, prosecution documents show. Gee sent the investigator an invoice which was then paid to him.

Gee is paid an annual salary of $ 46,310 by the USPS, according to government records, facing up to five years in federal prison.

Public defender for Gees’ attorney Saverio Vigginao and the USPS could not immediately be reached for comment.
