Machine Gun Kelly changes film title after criticism

Recently, the brother of the late Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller, Miller McCormick publicly shared his disapproval of the new movie Machine Gun Kelly. Critics of McCormick have put MGK and the film under fire from many fans who also shared similar feelings regarding the need for a new title.

MGK is set to star in a new hip-hop film that would be heavily inspired by late-stage artists including Miller himself, Pop Smoke, Lil Peep and Juice WRLD. The original film title Good News was meant to nod to Miller’s posthumous debut single from his 2020 album Circles. Rivulet Media has continuously insisted that the title pay homage to the late rapper, but due to growing backlash, the production company decided to change the title.

In a statement, the company said, “Our film is about a thriving fictional musician with a troubled life. This is by no means a biopic or based on the real life of an artist. We realize that the title, which was meant to be a tribute to Mac Miller and other artists who left too early, is disrespectful. We heard from many people on social media who found the title offended, so without hesitation, we’ll change it. ”

MGK has yet to respond to the controversy over the currently untitled film. Production on the film is expected to begin next week, but the film’s official release date has yet to be announced.
