Deroy Murdock: Dems Funding Police Policies Instead of Blaming the GOP, Here’s What They Should Do

As violent crime increases coast to coast, Democrats could do one of two things about their police funding initiatives that are propelling this chaos. They could defend their efforts and say, in essence, “Who cares about the burgeoning carnage? We want social justice, may the blood of the innocent be cursed. Or they could apologize: “We missed it all! Our soft ideas have been crushed by reality. Sorry!

Instead, Democrats are performing a political trifecta of hypocrisy, deception, and psychological projection: Democrats have not funded the police. The Republicans did it.

The lying Democrats now accuse the Republicans of funding the police and, presumably, of sparking the epidemic of lawlessness that followed.

Their “proof”? Republicans opposed Bidens’ $ 1.9 trillion US bailout that provided $ 350 billion in aid to states, cities and tribes. Nowhere does this 242-page bill mention “police” or “law enforcement”. This law allows “public safety officers” to participate in an allocation of $ 80 million for “training in mental health and substance use disorders.” In addition, “public safety” is included. targets for spending $ 772.5 million to tribal governments.

Now, post facto, Biden is encouraging states and cities to spend some of that $ 350 billion on police. If Biden told them tomorrow to spend that money on food for orphans, he could criticize Republicans for “starving orphans to death.”

This massive and filthy lie is easily refuted by the pro-funding comments from Democrats and the funding carried out in Democratic-run cities after the murder of George Floyd in May 2020 under the knee of Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin.

* On July 8, activist Ady Barkan asked candidate Joe Biden in a virtual interview, “But are we okay with redirecting some of the funding?” away from the police.

Democrats should simply apologize for their massive fundraising debacle and beg the forgiveness of the American people.

On top of these comments and many more in favor of funding the Democratic left, leaders of Democratic-led cities have funded their police services. Among the many such actions, consider these:

* The Portland City Commission, Oregons voted 3-1 on June 17, 2020 to fund $ 15 million from its police budget, cutting 84 positions. According to the National Fraternal Order of Police, homicides in Portlands climbed 800% through May 25, 2021 compared to that date last year.

* The Washington, DC City Council Committee on Justice and Public Safety voted unanimously on June 25, 2020 to fund $ 15 million for the Metropolitan Police Department and transfer that money to social programs . Homicides up 35%.

* Los Angeles City Council voted 12-2 on July 1, 2020, to fund the $ 150 million LAPD. Homicides up 27%.

* The New York City Council voted 32-17 that day to fund the $ 1 billion NYPD. Homicides up 22%.

* Minneapolis City Council voted 7-6 on Dec. 10 to fund its $ 8 million police department and spend that amount on other services. Homicides up 56%.

Beyond funding, Democrats have demonized the police as trigger-happy racists who shoot blacks for sports. It fueled resignations, retirements and a ‘don’t meddle’ attitude on the part of cops in metaphorical handcuffs.

Rather than ridicule themselves by baselessly putting their tails on elephants, Democrats should simply apologize for their massive fundraising debacle and beg the forgiveness of the American people.
