Late government. recruitment blamed for death of MPSC aspirants

After a 24-year-old candidate for the Maharashtra Civil Service Commission (MPSC) exams ended his life in Pune, political and student leaders urged Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to ensure the smooth running of the proceedings. exams and providing jobs for unemployed students.

While BJP opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis urged Thackeray to urgently revise the structure of the MPSC, NCP party lawmaker Rohit Pawar said the MPSC results were due to be announced soon and that the recruitment process should be streamlined immediately.

Repeated delays

Police in Pune said the deceased, a resident of the Hadapsar region, committed suicide on June 30. Officials said in a note left by him that he said his confidence in him was severely shaken due to repeated delays in the interview process. He also said the MPSC was an illusion and urged other wannabes not to fall into the trap. The municipal police registered a case of accidental death.

The deceased had passed the MPSC preliminaries in 2019, but the pandemic and subsequent delays by the government in completing the interview process frustrated him and made him anxious about the growing financial burden on his family, said relatives of the deceased.

There is a need to review the functioning of the MPSC as a whole. Many seats are vacant. Exams are overdue, the deceased midshipman had worked hard and passed the MPSC preliminaries in 2019. But even after nearly two years, he was not nominated by the Commission. Eventually, in desperation, he was forced to take the extreme step, Mr Fadnavis said.

Time-bound process

Mr Pawar, grandnephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, said it was now imperative that MPSC reviews be conducted on time from now on and that the process be completed quickly.

Results must be reported on time and the recruitment process must be completed. Pending appointments should be finalized quickly. Delay is no longer an option. At this rate, students quickly lose faith in the system, said Mr Pawar, MP for Karjat-Jamkhed in Ahmednagar.

BJP opposition leader in the Legislative Council, Pravin Darekar, blamed the state government’s neglect for the mood of despondency prevailing among the students.

The aspirant’s family, while blaming the government’s apathy for the plight of the MPSC aspirants, said his death should be a wake-up call to the MVA government.

Students on edge

Student leader Kuldeep Ambekar, president of Student Helping Hand, said confusion over MPSC exams over the past 20 months has led to a loss of confidence in the ruling government and thousands of students in Maharashtra have been pushed to the limit.

Uncertainty and growing debts are now driving students to commit suicide. Will the third wave of the pandemic lead to a wave of student suicides? Few MPs or MPs have bothered to tackle the problem of MPSC aspirants who spend endless days writing exams as pending hires have had a severe effect on the mental health of students. Who will take responsibility for all this, asked Ambekar.

He said the death of the deceased midshipman was not suicide but a case of murder by the system.

This is hardly the first case. Thanks to the blatant mismanagement of the MPSC and the political paralysis of the ruling government, the states’ most coveted exams quickly become a vicious cycle for its candidates, Ambekar said.

Sandhya Sonawane, another student leader, said the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns can no longer be an excuse not to complete the recruitment process.

The students, most of whom are from the rural hinterland, have piled up heavy financial burdens in the hope of securing a civil service job which would then allow them to pay off their current debts. even those who took exams in 2019 are not getting their interview calls. . The candidates look forward to their meeting. All of this must stop, Ms. Sonawane said.

In March of this year, following the second wave of the pandemic, the MVA government postponed MPSC reviews for the fifth time in less than 18 months. It had sparked protests across the state, with thousands of aspirants taking to the streets of Pune, Aurangabad and other cities, forcing the government to announce new review dates afterwards.
