Five-eighth manly Kieran Foran dismisses DCE Origin criticism

If you thought Queensland skipper Daly Cherry-Evans had finished and sprinkled on the Origin stage, think again.

Kieran Foran, Cherry-Evans’ partner for the halves, warned the Blues to expect a response from the half-back under fire in Origin III.

Foran believes “DCE” is ready to bounce back from below-par performance in Origin’s first two losses to the Star Blues.

“I think the criticism (of DCE) is far from the truth,” said Foran, who won a prime ministerial post alongside Cherry-Evans at Manly in 2011.

“He’s a world-class half-back, player and leader. For being the type of player he’s been for over a decade, you can’t do that unless you set yourself extremely high standards.

“Knowing the guy personally, I know how much he cares about winning and being the best player he can be.

“NSW won the first two games and that won’t suit DCE, and I know he will do whatever he can to lead this Queensland side to victory.”

Foran will lead Manly against Canberra on Thursday night in the absence of Origin stars Cherry-Evans and Tom Trbojevic.

He has done very well for the Sea Eagles in recent weeks as he looks to secure a new contract beyond this season.

“Of course I’m really enjoying my football right now and my body is feeling great,” said the 30-year-old.

“I want to continue to develop my own form as well as play my part in the team and do it to the best of my ability.

“As long as we continue to win and play good football, I hope the club will want to keep me a bit longer.”
