Bullying allegations over the Duchess of Sussex show Kensington Palace will not “sit down and take” Prince Harry and Meghan’s claims about royal life.

Shortly before the broadcast of Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, it emerged that a dossier had been compiled by a member of Kensington Palace staff while representing both the Cambridges and the Sussex who accused Meghan of intimidating two staff members of the royal household.

Meghan, 39, has denied the allegations, calling them a “calculated smear campaign”, and many of her friends have come out on her defense, but royal experts said the fact that the allegations emerged marked a change in tone of the breakup between William and Harry.

Reports that the brothers were at odds surfaced over 18 months ago, with the split of their common royal home after Harry and Meghan’s wedding was a big turning point.

Harry and Meghan’s decision to take a step back and then give Winfrey an interview about life in the royal family has also reportedly angered William.

But there was mostly silence on his side, until the appearance of the report on the alleged harassment of Meghan.

Speaking during an ITV documentary on the brothers, royal writer Penny Junor said: “The fact that the story came out before the interview, I think, is an indication that it must have had kind of a nod from Kensington Palace. “

Vanity Fair royal correspondent Katie Nicholl added: “For The Times to broadcast this sensational story, which elevates this feud, this rift, this huge controversy within the royal family, into a whole different stratosphere.

“This was the moment when it was very clear that the palace was not going to sit down and take this.”

Daily Telegraph associate editor Camilla Tominey asked “Is it any wonder that a bullying case ends up in The Times?” when Harry and Meghan “took no blame” for what happened before they stepped down from their senior royal roles.

The story continues

Robert Lacey, author of Battle Of Brothers, said Jason Knauf, a former William and Harry staff member, filed a dossier of allegations of “bullying” against William in October 2019, but Harry defended his wife .

Tominey told the documentary that there were people in the palace who had been “extremely upset” by her, while Nicholl said courtiers complained about early morning texts and emails.

Tominey said: “The pace at the palace is slower than what Meghan has been used to. I feel like they got very demanding and difficult to work with, but also didn’t feel like to be listened to. ”

Meghan has also been defended over her revelations about royal life, most notably by her friend Janina Gavankar, who said there were “receipts” to back up her claims.

Speaking of the sibling break-up, Omid Scobie, who co-wrote a biography on the Sussexes titled Finding Freedom, said seeing where Harry and William are now is “sad”, and that he hopes “moments together like remembering their mother’s life “would bring them together.

Harry and William were briefly reunited on July 1, which would have been their mother’s 60th birthday, to unveil a statue of her in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace.

Harry was reportedly gone within 20 minutes of the end of the private ceremony, which was attended by a small number of close family members.

The palaces and the Sussexes did not respond to any of the documentary’s claims.
