Rampant drug addict accused of wave of alleged crimes

A close family member of a Brisbane woman facing more than 50 charges may have eased her continued drug addiction, a judge has said.

Samsara Rose von Blanckensee faces a range of charges ranging from possession of a “significant” amount of methyl amphetamine to the illegal use of motor vehicles for several months.

The 26-year-old asked for bail at the Brisbane Supreme Court on Tuesday, her lawyer Andrew Owens arguing that the young woman had shown promising signs of rehabilitation.

The court heard that one of the charges involved Ms von Blanckensee was allegedly captured with 70% pure methylamphetamine.

Ms von Blanckensee is also said to have violated several court orders while facing other criminal charges.

Judge Peter Callaghan noted that drug use was a recurring theme across all of his charge groups, but some could be challenged or even dropped.

He said some of the alleged offenses could be explained by his “raging addiction”.

“She (Ms von Blanckensee) wants to withdraw from Brisbane, from her associates, including (a family member) who may have eased her addiction or at least done little to help her get out of it,” said Justice Callaghan.

Mr Owens argued that his client could reside in the Queensland area while he was on bail with the support of his grandmother.

Despite tests showing Ms von Blanckensee had remained drug-free in custody, Judge Callaghan refused bail.

He said the young woman couldn’t show that she could stay sober while she was in the community.

“She has too consistently failed to recognize the authority of court orders and will not do so until her addiction is resolved,” Justice Callaghan said.
