BL&P Regulatory Administrator Kim Griffith-Tang How. (DEPOSIT)
The Barbados Light & Power Company (BL&P) said it should not be blamed solely for the estimated 200 poles that fell during Hurricane Elsa last week.
As it continues to repair damage to the power grid in the wake of Elsa, which left thousands of people without power for a week, BL&P is concerned about the practices of telecommunications companies.
Yesterday, its regulatory administrator, Kim Griffith-Tang How, said the messy cabling of some telecom companies was a challenge.
We have found that there are messy telecommunication lines on our poles and it is no secret. This is very worrying for us and it is something that I think, having reflected in the last few days, that we really need to review and engage the telecom providers on the infrastructure on our poles and how it affects our poles and our ability to provide service to our customers, said Griffith-Tang How.
She participated in a virtual press briefing to brief the media on the power restoration effort. Another 1,500 clients have been reinstated in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 9,500 clients. (CLM)
