Dimitar Berbatov has urged Harry Kane to fight back against those who criticize the Tottenham star’s performance at the start of the European Championships.

Kane failed to score in any of England’s three group matches at the Euro and the Tottenham star has received a lot of criticism for his performances.

Some have questioned the physical form of the 27-year-old while pundits like Jamie Carragher have insisted the Tottenham star’s place in the starting XI needs to be closely examined.

As he has done for the past seven years, Kane has once again proven his critics wrong, scoring four goals in the Round of 16 and playing a pivotal role in the Three Lions’ march to the Final.

The Spurs star arguably had his best performance of the tournament in the semi-final against the Danes, holding the ball impressively and flaunting his vision as he played a nice deep ball to Bukayo Saka preparing for England’s opener .

Asked about Kane’s performance in the tournament, Berbatov told Betfair (as relayed by The Metro): “Kane has been excellent in the knockout stage.

“He received criticism in the group stages, but Kane can tell his critics to fuck off.

“Even great players have their ups and downs. Even when he wasn’t scoring he was doing a lot for the team. Now the goals are coming.

“The pressure on him with the penalty against Denmark was immense. You can’t imagine what it feels like to take a penalty with a nation’s hopes on your shoulders.

“As a player you know everyone depends on you, even if you don’t want to think about it. It wasn’t a good penalty but he was a bit lucky.

Spurs web opinion

Kane has shown throughout his career that he enjoys proving his critics wrong.

Despite all the negative things that have been said and written about him, I don’t think the England captain would have doubted himself for a moment before the round of 16.

I certainly wouldn’t blame him for scoring a few points in the final and coming home with another Golden Boot.
