Leigh Griffiths: Police ‘assess’ allegation Celtic striker sent inappropriate messages to second teenage girl | Football news

Police are assessing an allegation that Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths sent inappropriate messages to a second teenage girl on social media.

Griffiths was fired from Celtic’s preseason training camp earlier this week after officers began an investigation into online activity.

Celtic is also investigating allegations Griffiths sent inappropriate messages to a 15-year-old girl on social media.

It is understood that the new allegation concerns another teenage girl.

A Scottish Police spokesperson said: “We are aware of the content on social media and the matter is currently being assessed.”

After claims were first made on social media, Griffiths did not take part in Angel Postecoglou’s first friendly at the club head as Celtic beat Sheffield 3-1 Wednesday at Newport on Wednesday after- midday.

A Celtic spokesperson told multiple media later today: “We have been made aware of the comments online regarding Leigh Griffiths. The club will now take this matter seriously.

“Leigh has left training camp while we are doing this. It would not be appropriate to make any further comments at this time.”

Celtic took a one-year option on the 30-year-old forward’s contract last week after his future at Parkhead was in doubt.

Sky Sports News has contacted Celtic for comment.
