HOUSTON The Yankees on Saturday night at Minute Maid Park were all about revenge on Gerrit Cole, Aaron Judge and the whole organization.
The end result was a 1-0 Yankees win that set them up for a Houston Astros weekend series sweep that would send him into the All-Star break after a 5-1 roadtrip.
The sidebars were only for sending messages.
Cole sent one pitch in a three full game shutout in which he threw a career-high 129 pitches to silence critics who blamed his mini-crisis on the MLB now the pitchers’ police tampering with baseballs with sticky stuff.

The judge returned his revenge in the form of a mockery with a third inning homerun that represented the only point of the match, one that included the No.99 grabbing his two-handed jersey to Jose Altuve at home plate after his victory in the 2019 homer pennant in which the Astros second baseman may have been sporting a flying buzzer while ousting the Yankees.
As for the Yankees, they had a bit more retaliation for losing a 2017 ALCS to Houston that certainly included cheating and a 2019 rematch that may have done that too.
After two bad starts in a row, Cole was back dominant from start to finish in his first start to Houston since leaving the Astros after their 2019 World Series loss to sign with the Yankees. The right-hander put out the first nine batters and did not allow a hit before a fifth inning out. He put out 12 batters and walked two.
With closest Aroldis Chapman in a deep crisis, Zack Britton and Jonathan Loaisiga on IL and Chad Green unavailable after a two innings out on Friday night, manager Aaron Boone let his ace go up for the ninth with his number of throws. to 112.
Still throwing 99 mph in the ninth, Cole stayed in the game after Altuve scored a start single and Michael Brantley soared to cross on a 10 batting. After Cole knocked out Yuli Gurriel for the second out, Boone headed for the mound but was dissuaded from making a change.
I think he just wanted it, Boone said. I wasn’t going to go out there, sure to take it out. I just wanted to take his temperature a bit, see where he was. So we just fixed it, you have another hitter. Let it all hang out there.
Cole then pulled Yordan Alvarez out on three shots to end the game.
It’s about as special as it gets, Boone said.
Before the game, Boone thought Cole was going to have a short outing because he had been ill this weekend in Seattle.
He was in bad weather and was on IVs, Boone said. I was even wondering if he was going to go and he does.
Cole and the Yankees held a 1-0 lead after Judge hit a two-out homer in the third against Astros right-hander Zack Greinke.
The judge blew up a 2-1 change to the left center wall for a home run without a doubt, his 23rd.
The Astros only have two good scoring opportunities, but Cole thwarted them after walking twice in a row to start the fourth and securing the final in the fifth with the tie tied in goal position after just one stolen base.
