Did vandals destroy George Floyd’s fresco? Toledo officials blame natural causes

[ad_1]

A mural in Toledo that was made in honor of George Floyd collapsed on Tuesday July 12. Even though some people say the mural collapsed after being struck by lightning, some still say the cause of the damage is “unknown”.

Hugh Koogan, the city’s building inspector, said it appeared to be the result of natural deterioration. The city had noticed the middle of the wall, where most of the damage occurred, tilting recently, he said. Another outlet reported that a lightning strike struck the area around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12. The mural was on a building where the Mugshots Bar was previously located. Love at first sight, which struck George Floyd directly in the face, reduced the mural to a pile of bricks. It was just the age. It’s just gone, ”Koogan said. It happens to older buildings.

A witness said he saw lightning strike the building at the site of the collapse, but Koogan, who spoke to the person, said he found no signs to support this theory. He also dismissed claims that the rainy weather was to blame. Artist David Ross said he was skeptical of the cause. He painted the mural, titled “Take a Breath” in the summer of 2020 amid the Black Lives Matter protests after the murder of Floyd, who was killed below the knee of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin. Chauvin was later convicted of murder and sentenced to 22.5 years in prison. Ross said he remembers receiving threats and criticism at the time. Now he’s wondering if anyone has vandalized the mural. When I did the mural there was some stuff on the wall that I couldn’t remove that let me know how strong this structure was. Lightning is possible, but I know it hasn’t just fallen. He added: I’m not upset because I know I’m going to do it again, either by nature or by vandalism. ”

Some netizens have woven their own wild theory behind the destruction. One internet user said: “White supremacy has gone too far. While another said, “I am not a religious man, but it is definitely a sign. Another asked, “Was there a strange blond-haired, blond-haired, blue-eyed man with a hammer standing nearby?” While another attacked saying, “God says don’t worship criminals just because they were wrongly killed.” One Twitter user said, “Sometimes God acts in mysterious ways. Other times He leaves no room for confusion.” While another wondered: “The metal lampposts grounded right next to the structure are nevertheless affected and the mural destroyed …”
