TULSA, Oklahoma (KOKI) – A community forum was held Tuesday evening on the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling McGirt across Green Country.

The forum was held at the Cox Business Center in downtown Tulsa and had a panel consisting of several members of the District Attorney, Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regaldo and Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt.

The purpose of the forum was to answer questions and concerns from the community about the decision.

One of the panelists, Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzeweiler, said the McGit decision had a huge impact on how criminal cases were handled and handled in Oklahoma.

In front of the panel, a few dozen people gathered, placards in hand, expressing their concerns during a peaceful demonstration.

Were not there to protest, weren’t there to hurl insults, were there to show solidarity with our treaty and our sovereignty, said Brenda Golden, co-founder of the local group Spirit.

Golden, who kicked off the protest, says she and others have come forward to represent their tribal communities. Golden and others also said tribal organizations and leaders were not invited to the event.

We had issued invitations as early as June 3, Kunzweiler said.

Many people said tribal leaders were not fairly represented on the panel.
