A 58-year-old man has been arrested as police investigate an allegation of child sexual abuse at an educational facility in the Rugby area.
Earlier in the evening, Warwickshire Police informed the announcer of the arrest, a spokesperson wishing to reassure the community that the allegation is being fully investigated and that safeguards have been put in place in place.
The educational institution cannot be named as this could lead to the identification of the victim – thus causing harm and potentially damaging the police investigation.
Detective Inspector Ed Peake of the Warwickshire Police Team regarding child abuse, trafficking and exploitation said: I understand the concern this allegation will cause in the local community and would like to assure people that once the allegation was made, we responded quickly on the basis of the information, arrested a suspect and worked with partners to ensure that protective measures were in place.
We will now conduct a full investigation of the allegation.
We would also like to remind people that all victims of sexual offenses have guaranteed legal anonymity, which means that nothing should be published that can identify them; this includes the name of the educational institution.
“Anyone who posts the establishment’s name on social media can commit a criminal offense under the Sexual Offenses Act.
DI Peake added: We are aware of discussions on social media about more prevalent violations related to this case, which is causing concern to the local community.
“We are currently investigating an allegation against a man.
We urge people not to speculate online while we conduct our investigation.
A police spokesperson added: “If you are concerned about the welfare of your child, please contact the Warwickshire County Council helpline which is available evenings and weekends from July 16 at 01926 886922 or contact children’s services Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 01926 414144.
“If you need help finding alternative child care or preschool education, call the Family Information Service on 01926 742274 or send [email protected]
“Anyone with information that could help the police in their ongoing investigations should call 101 citing incident 100 of July 12, 2021.
“Alternatively, the information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
The Advertiser contacted the school this evening, July 16, for comment.
