UPDATE: JULY 16, 2021, (WTVQ) –

CAMPTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – “I need help with him, or I’ll lose him and god knows I don’t want to bury my son”

Christopher Whisman’s mother Donna Tackett is asking for help following her son’s arrest on Wednesday.

State Police said Whisman fled a sheriff’s deputy investigating a report of a man with a knife on Bear Pen Road in Campton.

According to KSP, Whisman attempted to take the MP’s weapon in a fight that ended with the MP’s helping hand.

But Tackett says his son would never hurt anyone on purpose, that Whisman was abused as a child and was recently diagnosed with a mood disorder.

“When he was 16 he switched from pain relievers to heroin, from heroin to meth, and doctors said his brain had spots where meth affected him,” Tackett said.

She says he’s been sober since February… but he could have relapsed.

“Something must have triggered this because Chris isn’t a threat to anyone,” Tackett added.

According to the arrest report, it was drugs.

But Tackett says that shouldn’t have happened at all. She says a judge signed an recognizance order for Whisman last week for 72 hours of detention in a mental hospital. Wolfe County Circuit Court could not confirm this, saying it was confidential.

“He would have been in the hospital on Wednesday because a psychiatric ward would not have released him because of his illnesses,” Tackett said.

Tackett says she feels sorry for the deputy who was shot… but hopes the court can see how sick her son really is.

“I don’t care if they put him in a mental hospital for the next ten years, just give him the drugs and things so he can live a normal life.”

According to the Three Forks Regional Detention Center, Whisman is charged with gratuitous endangerment, resisting arrest and attempted murder of a police officer.
