Stop the blame game, it’s nobody’s best

TACHKENT: Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed said on Friday that Afghanistan should stop the blame game because it was not beneficial to both countries.

He said evidence of Afghanistan’s intrusion into Pakistan was handed over to Afghan authorities in the presence of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. Lieutenant-General Faiz Hameed was part of the delegation that attended the conference on Connectivity, Challenges and Opportunities in South and Central Asia, hosted by Uzbekistan.

After talks between Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Ashraf Ghani in the conference hall, the ISI chief told this correspondent that Pakistani security forces were under attack on the Pakistan-Afghan border, resulting in the martyrdom of the Pakistani armed forces personnel. In such a situation, blaming Pakistan for the intrusion into Afghanistan was totally wrong.

The world has recognized Pakistan’s sacrifices for the maintenance of peace in Afghanistan. We have lost 70,000 precious lives in the war on terrorism, in addition to losing billions of dollars in the destruction of infrastructure. We defend a peaceful and stable Afghanistan and will continue our efforts to establish peace there, he added.

He said the Afghan peace conference, which was scheduled to be held in Islamabad from July 17-19, 2021, had been postponed and not canceled due to pressing commitments and the Asia and Central Asia connectivity conference. It will be rescheduled shortly, he said.
