THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Other allegations are made against Poornima Mohan, publisher of the Malayalam lexicon and professor of Sanskrit. The new allegation against her is that the UGC sanctioned Rs 7,81,600 nine years ago for preparing a multilingual dictionary but was dropped halfway. The campaign committee of Save University, a whistleblower group working for the welfare of the university, has filed a complaint with the senior minister of the Department of Education.
The UGC sanctioned the amount in February 2012 to prepare a multilingual bodhini, a dictionary of the main Dravidian languages and some Indo-European languages. The Sanskrit University asked the professor to return the amount because the dictionary work had not started even after five years. The UGC gave him two years to publish the dictionary. The amount was refunded in 2017 as per the continued demand of the Sanskrit University.
The Save University campaign committee asked the vice-chancellor to rescind her appointment as editor-in-chief of the Malayalam lexicon which turned out to be ignorant in the dictionary’s publication.
