Turn 4 is famous. ”- Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko believes Lewis Hamilton played a devastating role in ruining Alex Albon’s career last season.
Outspoken Helmut Marko dropped another bombshell by claiming Lewis Hamilton is responsible for Alex Albon’s absence from the F1 grid. Marko referred to the season opener in Austria last year where Hamilton crashed into Albon at turn 4 and sent him out of the race.
Turn 4 is famous. This is where I think Hamilton destroyed Albons’ career.
If Hamilton hadn’t sent him there in 2020, Albon would have won the race. So maybe everything would have been completely different, because then the psyche and self-confidence naturally develop in completely different ways.
The difference is: Perez has more consistency. When he succeeds in his qualifying sessions, as second at Imola or third at the Red Bull Ring, these are results that Albon did not have. And in the race, he is almost at Verstappen’s level when he has a clear course.

Alex Albon struggles to watch the races
Albon never fully recovered from this incident, which led to his demotion to the position of reserve pilot for the team. Sergio Perez is shining as a substitute this season, and Albon admits he’s struggling to watch races from the sidelines.
Of course, I still play a role in the team and that’s why I’m very happy that Red Bull is doing so well this F1 season. But logically, I’m also a little disappointed because I’m not in the car myself.
I am a sportsman and you aspire to be the best, which is why it was especially difficult in the first race in Bahrain to see that I was not competing myself. It remains difficult to watch F1 races this season.
