In an interview on Al Nahar TV channel, Al Ahly Pitso Mosimane head coach discussed the team’s journey to the CAF Champions League title and the importance for him of lifting the trophy.

Pitso started by talking about the promise he made to the supporters: “When we were in Qatar after our CAF Super Cup victory, I promised the fans that we would also win the Champions League title. CAF, and I sent this promise to the players to motivate them.

“I have to be the source of positive energy for the team. I believe in our chances of winning the FIFA Club World Cup even if it seemed impossible.

“When we played against Bayern Munich, the best team in the world, people thought we were invincible, our loss to Simba brought us back to reality, it was the shock we needed to wake us up.

Asked about the most difficult game he had in the CAF Champions League campaign, he replied: “Simba’s game was very difficult, playing against them is exhausting. The matches of Al-Merrikh and Sundowns were also very difficult.

“The hardest thing to face as a coach is a random team, which happens a lot with us.

“I always ask the forwards to change their position, it makes it very difficult for the defenders to watch them.

“I like owning the ball most of the time. I listen to everyone and then I make my own game plan.

The South African was then asked how he dealt with constant criticism, he replied, “People will always criticize you no matter what you do, so I try to turn negative reviews into positive ones.

“When I was a player, I was often frustrated because of my coach. I try not to repeat the same mistakes with my players.

“The reason I changed the game plan when I took over after Weiler was because our midfielder was out of balance,” he added.
