TikTok Bride slammed for trying to cut wedding costs

Sian Taylor has gone viral on TikTok for sharing things she won’t spend money on for her wedding. Taylor said she wouldn’t have real flowers, a big cake or a guestbook at her weekday wedding. “We want to invest our money in things that are more meaningful for the wedding,” Taylor told Insider. Weddings are full of traditions: the drawing of the bouquet, the ceremony of walking down the aisle, the cutting of the cake.

Many couples are modernizing or removing traditions that don’t suit them, although many are still extremely popular.

For Sian Taylor, a bride in the UK, it made more sense to approach the traditions of marriage with a practical and financial mindset.

Taylor, 24, posted two videos on TikTok last week, sharing things she and her fiance, Andy, wouldn’t have at their wedding, mostly due to the cost.

In a video, which had more than 300,000 views on Tuesday, Taylor said she won’t send reservation dates, guestbook, gift giving or use real flowers for her wedding. She said she planned to use silk flowers and DIY her arrangements.

She also said she would get married on a weekday evening because her room was cheaper to book during the week than on weekends.

In a second video, Taylor said she wouldn’t have a big wedding cake because the base cost of a three-tier cake with no decorations in her area was 400 pounds, or over $ 500.

Taylor said she bought a cupcake that she and her fiance could cut and that she would provide Krispy Kreme donuts for her guests.

She said she only hired a DJ for part of the evening and intended to use a playlist for the rest of the night, adding that she would purchase her veil on Etsy or eBay for further reduce costs.

She said her guests would respond through a wedding website rather than the post, which would save money and be better for the environment.

Taylor told Insider that she and her fiancé are saving money by focusing on the parts of the wedding that are most important to them and that they hope other couples will do the same.

“For us as a couple, we want to invest our money in things more meaningful for the wedding, a photographer and a videographer are priceless for us rather than spending small amounts of money which is a huge sum. “she told Insider.

Taylor also said she received criticism from viewers on TikTok.

“To all the Karens who blew up my tiktok overnight because I don’t want a guestbook and have a midweek wedding for OUR wedding, it’s OUR wedding, not yours” Taylor wrote in the captions of a response video.

She added: “We hope our guests will come and celebrate us as a couple and not for the free stuff.”

Taylor told Insider his videos weren’t meant to dictate what others should do with their marriage.

“We believe everyone should have the wedding of their dreams, and if they like the ideas that we give up, then 100% they should have them,” she said. “I mainly created the TikToks for anyone who was budget conscious and wanted more ideas to reduce their expenses.

“We are not a traditional couple, and due to COVID, wedding prices seem to have skyrocketed, so we jumped at the chance to save money in some areas in order to have the things that really matter to us, ”Taylor continued.

“I think a lot of people get caught up in the materialistic side of weddings, but we want to focus on the things that are important to us as a couple,” she added.
