A Delaware state lawmaker apologized on Tuesday after sending an email using a racist and sexist insult to Asian women in an unrelated sex work email. Democratic State Representative Gerald Brady, who represents Wilmington, inadvertently sent the email on June 27 to an advocate working on the decriminalization of prostitution.
Is the guy saying that if we provide (sex acts) to Uncle Pervie for free, there will be little rape and little (insults to Asian women) will be shipped in CONEX containers to Wilmington port ?? Brady responded from his official government email address in messages obtained by The News Journal of Wilmington.
The comments were in response to a study sent by the attorney which suggested that sex crimes in a New York neighborhood was decreasing with the presence of more strip clubs. The original email also called on Delaware lawmakers to take action to protect sex workers in the state, referring to a time when Rhode Island decriminalized sex work in massage parlors and sex clubs. striptease, according to The News Journal.
Brady intended to forward the message to a private citizen he knows, but clicked reply instead of forward and sent a reply to the original sender, a Delaware House Democratic spokesperson said. News Journal caucus. Although neither the study nor the sender directly mentions Asian women, Brady introduced them into the conversation using an insult.
Brady did not respond to an NBC News request for comment.
In a statement posted to his Facebook account, Brady apologized, saying I had to do better.
There is no excuse I can offer for my embarrassing and shameful remarks that have insulted, stereotyped and dehumanized an entire culture while shedding light on a grave human rights crisis, he wrote. It doesn’t matter that I think someone’s policy proposal is legitimate; human trafficking deserves to be treated seriously and attacked aggressively and not treated like a punchline.
The email comes months after national conversations about the sexualization and fetishization of Asian women came to the fore in the wake of the Atlanta shooting. Experts say Asian women face a very unique and insidious sexism in their daily lives.
“Killing Asian American Women to Eliminate Male Temptation brings to mind the story of the objectification of Asian and Asian American women as variants of the Asian temptress, dragon ladies and flowers of lotus, the value of which is tied only to men’s fantasies and desires, “Sung Yeon Choimorrow, executive director of the nonprofit National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, told NBC Asian America in March. “This is horrible. Stop fetishizing us.”
