Polish anti-vaccine protesters chant Jews to blame for COVID-19 pandemic

WARSAW (JTA) Several participants at a rally in Glogow, Poland chanted that Jews are to blame for the COVID-19 pandemic and agreed that Jews run the world.

About 100 people marched through the streets of the city in western Poland on Sunday to oppose vaccination and health segregation, or restrictions on unvaccinated people.

We know who is behind this whole plandemic, ”said one of the leaders of the march, hinting that he believes the pandemic is bogus and part of a plan to weaken the Polish economy.

Do you know who hates the Poles? We know who hates [us], he added.

Jews, replied another walker.

Another said Jews would demand our homes, referring to the debate over the restitution of Holocaust property, which the right-wing Polish government is trying to limit.

As this debate raged in parliament and attracted the attention of US lawmakers, Polish nationalists took to the streets. Earlier this month, members of the All-Polish Youth group left debris outside the Israeli embassy in Warsaw.

Others disrupted a commemoration for the victims of a Holocaust-era pogrom last week, symbolizing the country’s other heated debate, over whether the Nazis or Poles should be blamed for the atrocities of World War II.

Polish Jewish professor Michal Bilewicz, who teaches at the University of Warsaw, condemned the Sunday protesters as anti-Semites. We live in a time when such people don’t even dress up in disguise, he wrote on Twitter.

The Central European Office of the American Jewish Committee tweeted: “This is a classic form of anti-Semitism. Where are the responses from decision makers?

Videos of the march have appeared on social media. They showed that the police did not react to the anti-Semitic slogans but took action when some of the participants started kicking a police car. As a result, three men were arrested. Two of them were under the influence of alcohol.

The records of the police of the march will be forwarded to a prosecutor’s office, which will decide whether an investigation should be opened.

Last week, the right-wing nationalist party Konfederacja, which has 11 seats in the lower house of the Polish parliament, posted a video of Polish model Samuela Grska on their official social media platforms in which they say they don’t think the Jews belong to Poland.

I don’t want Jews either, I don’t want LGBT people, I don’t want a lot of the things that are here right now, she said. Only Konfederacja [] ensures normality.

Polish fashion brands then cut ties with Grska and deleted her photos from their social media profiles.

According to 2018 research, 85% of Polish Jews believe that anti-Semitism is a major problem in Poland.
