Elon Musk responds to praise and criticism of MKBHD’s Tesla Model S throw

[ad_1]

Marques Keith Brownlee, better known as MKBHD, is the personality behind the largest tech journal channel on YouTube.

His channel, MKBHD, has over 14 million subscribers and attracts millions of views on every video.

His videos are known for their high production quality, in-depth research and nuanced opinions that keep his reviews holding up with consumers.

MKBHD also happens to be a Tesla fan and owner of a 2019 Raven Model S. And just a few hours ago, MKBHD released their first print video of the all-new Model S Plaid.

The video is entertaining and really insightful, if you can you should definitely watch it in its entirety. However, if you don’t have 20 minutes to spare, here are the highlights.

MKBHD started their video with nothing but praise for the new Model S Plaid. Despite driving the second fastest Tesla in production on a daily basis, MKBHD has always been pleasantly surprised by the performance of the Model S Plaids.

According to Marques, you can feel the performance on your chest and the acceleration is most noticeable between 60 and 130 miles per hour.

Compared to the previous Performance Tesla Model S, the Plaid Model S can travel 60 to 130 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds, less than half the time it takes the Performance Model S.

MKBHD also admired the refreshed fit and finish of the Model Ss, being pleasantly surprised by the higher quality materials and more attractive stitching that Tesla implemented throughout the vehicle.

Brownlee also admired the new landscaped center display and how it is more aligned with the dashboard. He also admired the responsiveness of the touchscreen and the new, more intuitive and customizable user interface.

However, MKBHD also had a few minor complaints and a major criticism of the S Plaid model. A quirky example of how the refreshed Model S could improve is how materials, especially paper or something very thin, can slip between the center console and wireless chargers and disappear.

In his video, MKBHD describes how he lost his registration card in the small opening. Fortunately, however, the paper spurted out in the backseat when he threw the vehicle hard on the freeway.

Another minor complaint was the way the steering wheel covers parts of the touchscreen and drivers have to wrap their hands around the steering wheel in order to press certain buttons. Brownlee also said the screen behind the wheel was a bit dark.

However, these are all minor complaints. MKBHD has called the Plaid Model S a world class vehicle in all but one respect. And the only part that isn’t is the controversial panel frill.

MKBHD’s main complaint was that Tesla was literally reinventing the wheel. This means that drivers need to retrain their muscle memory acquired over years of using a circular steering wheel. According to MKBHD, the relearn process causes initial discomfort when maneuvering the vehicle.

Marques was, however, still willing to give Tesla a pass to try something new and daring. But, he was particularly annoyed by the capacitive touch buttons on the steering wheel.

These tactile buttons are used for most daily driving tasks such as turning on the vehicle lights, turn signals and horn.

Since the buttons aren’t physical buttons, MKBHD found itself having to look down for the most basic tasks. Plus, since the buttons are tactile, they also accidentally trigger when you turn the steering wheel.

Overall, MKBHD says it would still take the yoke wheel over a conventional circular wheel, however, it would prefer it, if it came with physical buttons.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, for his part, seems to agree with most of MKBHD’s points about the video. Musk said overall a good review and a fair review.

Good review and fair review.

Usually with interfaces all entries are errors. With each software update, cars intuition will improve. You will need to press the buttons less and less and it will know when to ignore accidental button presses.

Elon Musk also responded to some of the criticisms specific to MKBHDs. Regarding complaints from MKBHDs that part of the screen is obstructed by the steering wheel, Musk said that in general with interfaces all input is wrong. With each software update, cars intuition will improve. You will have to press the buttons less and less.

And when it comes to capacitive steering wheel buttons that accidentally trigger, Musk said that with future updates, the vehicle will know when to ignore accidental button presses.

Also regarding the screen behind the wheel, Elon says that the full autonomous driving interface is displayed all over the screen and it’s amazing. The yoke allows a clear view of the screen.

Plus, the full self-driving interface is displayed all over the screen and it’s amazing. The yoke allows a clear view of the screen.

Currently, FSD software version 9 beta has been deployed to all 2,000 participants in the Teslas Early Access program. The software will be deployed to the general public, including MKBHD Plaid Model S with FSD Beta V10 / 11.

The V10 and V11 updates are expected to upgrade the Teslas FSD software to a system that only uses cameras and no longer requires radar to understand the surroundings.

The current beta of FSD, V9, only uses pure vision production software on highways, however, V10 hopefully V11 will certainly start using pure vision on surface streets and complex parking lots as well. .

MKBHD says this is just his first impression, he will have a more detailed review after driving the vehicle for a longer period of time.
