Letter: Why isn’t Biden blamed for COVID deaths? | Letters to the Editor

[ad_1]

A recent letter asked why Trump was blamed for the COVID deaths while in office, but Biden was not blamed in the same way. I can think of a few reasons. In February 2020, Trump admitted to Bob Woodward that COVID was deadly, but he wants to play down how deadly it was. Even though Trump was vaccinated in January 2021, he always downplayed the importance of getting vaccinated and ridiculed by wearing masks during the height of the epidemic. Following his example, the right-wing news outlets amplified this misinformation and continued to do so. In contrast, Biden ramped up the production, availability and distribution of vaccines, and even during the campaign he emphasized the severity of COVID and the fact that vaccinations were needed to eventually control COVID. Although vaccines are widely available, more than 99% of people who are currently dying from COVID are unvaccinated people. Biden cannot reasonably be blamed for the deaths of people who will not get vaccinated.
