MORRISTOWN – Last weekend, the Blame My Roots Festival also featured a wish for a brave little girl.
Annmarie O’Grady, Executive Director of A Special Wish, announced that 11-year-old Cecilia Rotilio and her family will be traveling to Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida.
“I reached out to Chris Dutton and the Dutton family who run Blame My Roots, and we talked about doing a wish reveal during the festival, and he said they would like to sponsor the wish as well, which is wonderful,” O’Grady said. .
“Cecilia is a baby girl from Belmont, Ohio,” O’Grady said. She was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in September 2020. O’Grady began speaking to Cecilia’s family earlier this year.
“She loves amusement parks and big coasters, and she also loves animals and she loved that there was also a safari at Busch Gardens,” said O’Grady. She will make the trip when she has recovered more.
“She just finished her last round of chemo on Monday,” she said. “We’ll make her wish come true when she’s ready, when she feels good and can enjoy Busch Gardens.”
O’Grady said Cecilia is a fairly new member of the “wish family” and her wish has not been postponed since last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Others have fallen behind.
“With our other 2019 wishes that were to come true in 2020, they could not come true,” O’Grady said. “COVID has stopped so many things in the past year, but the one thing it hasn’t stopped is the children of the Ohio Valley who are still being diagnosed with illness. The children kept getting sick.
“We made two wishes come true this year,” she said. “We have two that will be awarded at the end of this year in the fall. We have two going to Disney World, and it will definitely happen. “
She said Blame My Roots was the logical choice as a place to reveal the wish.
“The fact that she lives a few minutes away – she’s from Belmont Ohio – and I think that was a really good choice,” she said.
“I just thought it would be a really nice place to make a revelation, to get our name out there and what we can do,” she said. “We always want people to know us so they can refer their children or children they know who might be eligible for a wish. Our mission is to grant wishes for the children of the Ohio Valley who have been diagnosed with a fatal disease.
“It was a really great way for people in the area to see who we are and what we do, and for CC to feel special,” she said. “It is above all about our children. … It’s so nice to be able to make wishes come true and make the revelations.
She thanked the Duttons, A Special Wish’s partner company, Belmont Savings Bank, and community partners Hoagy’s Heroes and Harvey Goodman Realtor.
A Bling and Brew event is scheduled for August 4 at Chapz Bar & Grill on National Road near Belmont, and a lip-syncing challenge on October 2 at the Capitol Theater in Wheeling.
