MOSCOW, September 14 (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin is self-isolationG post members of his entourage fell ill with COVID-19 and therefore will not travel to Tajikistan this week for planned regional security meetings, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.
Putin, 68, was due to travel to Tajikistan for high-level meetings of the CSTO and SCO regional alliances, focusing on the rapidly deteriorating security situation in neighboring Afghanistan.
The Kremlin said in a statement on Tuesday that Putin had called Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon to explain that he could not travel due to his self-imposed isolation and that he would attend video meetings.
“Putin said that because of coronavirus cases in his entourage, he must maintain a state of isolation for some time,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
The Russian leader has taken a series of health precautions throughout the pandemic and has had two doses of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine.
