Rebellion is on the minds of Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Joe Biden. Without naming him, Putin denounced Yevgeny Prigozhin, the boss of the Wagner mercenary group, in a speech on Monday, his first since the weekend uprising. He reaffirmed an agreement to end the conflict that resulted in Prigozhin’s exile in Belarus. Meanwhile, President Biden makes it clear that the US and its allies had nothing to do with the insurgency.

- On Up first this morning NPR’s Charles Mayne reports that the Kremlin appears to be promoting the idea that the conflict was “something to celebrateAnd that the Russians rallied when it mattered most to prevent a civil war.
- “With so much tension, the biggest fear is a misunderstanding” says NPR’s Franco Ordoez. Andrea Kendall-Taylor, who advised the Biden transition team on Russia policy, tells him the White House is trying to counter the narrative that the US likes to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.
- Russians who left for Turkey after the invasion of Ukraine were glued to their televisions as the incident unfolded this weekend. They say they are worried about Putin increasing repressive measures which will affect their loved ones back home.

People who want to lose weight are usually told to count and restrict their calories. A new study suggests that an intermittent fasting method called time-restricted eating could be a simpler approach. Researchers studied obese adults who restricted their eating from noon to 8 p.m. and those who reduced their calorie intake by 25 percent. Both groups lost an average of 5% of their body weight.
The first local spread of mosquito-borne malaria in the US it has been detected for the first time in two decades. Five cases of the disease have been recorded in the past two months, four in Florida and one in Texas. All infected people have been treated and are improving, according to the CDC. The disease can be life-threatening, but it is preventable and treatable.
