SINGAPORE – A 39-year-old woman is said to have left the hotel room where she was serving her Stay-at-Home Notice (SHN) twice and even climbed onto the balcony of another room.

Singaporean Jin Chensu was charged Friday, July 30, with two counts of not wearing a mask outside her bedroom and two counts of exposing others to the risk of Covid-19 infection.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in a statement Friday that Jin arrived in Singapore from Cambodia on October 4 last year.

She received a SHN the same day and it was to last until October 18.

Jin was also informed by an ICA officer that she had to serve her SHN at a dedicated facility and was not allowed to leave her room there.

But she reportedly left her room at the Shangri-la Rasa Sentosa Resort without wearing a mask twice – on October 6 and 9.

The first time, Jin would have climbed onto the balcony of another room upstairs and stayed there for about five minutes before returning to his room.

She was reportedly strolling along the common hallway in second instance before a member of hotel staff found her 25 minutes later. She was then escorted back to her room.

District Judge Lorraine Ho on Thursday granted the prosecution’s request to remand Jin in pre-trial detention at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for two weeks for a psychiatric evaluation.

Attending her hearing via video link, Jin had asked if she could ask her personal psychiatrist to assess her instead of the OHM.

His case will be heard again on August 13.

For each offense of exposing others to the risk of Covid-19 infection, Jin can be jailed for up to six months, or fined up to $ 10,000, or both.

She may also be subject to the same penalty for each offense of not wearing a mask outside her place of residence.

In its statement, the ICA said: “Strict adherence to SHN requirements is essential to protect the health and safety of our people.”

To report information on anyone who does not comply with SHN requirements, members of the public can visit CIA website on reporting a SHN violationor call 6812-5555.
