A man is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and another was released from hospital after a targeted shooting in Kelowna, B.C. on Saturday night.

Police said they responded to reports of gunfire at Pandosy Street and KLO Road just before 7:00 p.m. When officers arrived, they found two men with apparent gunshot wounds.

A 25-year-old resident of Surrey, British Columbia, remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries. West Kelowna resident Kyle Gianis, 37, was also taken to hospital but has since been released.

The RCMP say they believe it is a targeted attack, and Gianis is known to law enforcement.

“Because of his criminal activities and his associates, Mr. Gianis poses a threat to our community and the general public,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in a statement.

In 2007, Glanis’ house was shot down 14 times in one night.

RCMP said they found what they believed to be an unexploded explosive device at the scene of the shooting, and they expect the area to be closed for some time until teams can assess the location. ‘gear. (Winston Szeto / CBC News)

While at the scene on Saturday, RCMP discovered what they believed to be an unexploded explosive device.

“Police immediately cordoned off the area. It will remain closed until officers from the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit have dealt with the device safely,” Noseworthy said.

The area could be closed for a while, Noseworthy said, as the Explosive Disposal Unit must travel to Kelowna to respond.

No arrests were made. Police say witnesses spotted a driver fleeing the scene in a SilverSUV.

Those with information on the incident are asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 orwww.crimestoppers.net.
