In March 2013, just before the fifth meeting of the leaders of the BRICS, China’s new President Xi Jinping accepted interviews with a group of foreign journalists. Among them is Mikhail Gusman, the first deputy director general of the ITAR-TASS news agency. Two things impressed this veteran Russian journalist. One was the wisdom he saw in the eyes of Chinese leaders, and the other was the strength of the handshake.
