The University of Saskatchewan says the vast majority of its students, staff and faculty have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The university claims that 25,000 students, staff and faculty 92% of the total fall campus population have shared their immunization status.

Of these, 97% have received a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 91% are fully vaccinated, the university said in an update Thursday on its website.

This is well above the provincial rate for Saskatchewan. As of Friday, 80 percent of Saskatchewan residents aged 12 and older had received a dose of the vaccine and just under 72 percent were fully immunized, according to CBC’s vaccine tracking system.

“Implementing the guidelines, systems and processes around vaccination and proof of vaccination is a complex and comprehensive undertaking,” said Peter Stoicheff, president and vice-chancellor of the university, in the update day on the university’s website.

“But as is always the case at USask, we came together and worked tirelessly for the common good.”

Last month, the University of Saskatchewan announced its vaccination policy, requiring proof of a first vaccination before September 9and proof of a second dose by October 18, with regular COVID-19 testing required for those unable or unwilling to get vaccinated.

Thursday’s update from the university said that people who are not vaccinated, or who have chosen not to disclose their immunization status, “are now required to submittwo negative rapid test resultsweekly and complete a daily symptom log to participate in campus activities. “

The university also said it was introducing “consequences of non-compliance for people who have not yet declared their immunization status, including loss of access to course materials, unpaid time off and the ban to attend campus “.

The U of S also says it will also begin providing updates on positive COVID-19 cases reported by members of the university, both on and off campus.

It also requires the wearing of masks during any outdoor gathering of more than 20 people.
