Dear UHD community,
The University of Houston-Downtown works daily to create opportunities for meaningful and educational cultural exchange. These exchanges allow our students to experience diverse populations residing in our community… and to interact with people who may have ancestors in other parts of the world. Students also connect with academics who visit our great city from around the world. With this in mind, it is with great pleasure that UHD is involved in International Education Week.
International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchanges around the world. This joint initiative of the United States Department of State and the United States Department of Education promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences.
Our campus community is already a great example of this laudable endeavor. Through UHD International Admissions, UHD currently serves 350 international students who represent the University’s five colleges. In addition, UHD students engaged in international experiential learning in South Korea and the UK through the Study Abroad Office.
In today’s global marketplace, we recognize that we all rise up when we better understand each other’s customs and history. We realize through these interactions that although we may come from different backgrounds, we share a lot in common through our relationships as citizens of the world.
UHD is known for its diversity, and that extends to the people we welcome to our campus as well as the destinations our representatives visit. I encourage you all to explore the value of education abroad; the richness brought to our classrooms and departments by faculty, staff and international students; and the benefits derived from international programs both on campus and in our multicultural city.
