OHIO hosted delegates from Andijan State University, Uzbekistan, during International Education Week 2021

OHIO hosted ASU delegates as special guests at the 2021 IEW Gala.

Welcomed by the Ohio Intensive English Program (OPIE) and the Office of Global Affairs, delegates from Andijan State University (ASU) in Uzbekistan visited the University’s Athens campus from Ohio during the week of November 15-19.

This new global partnership was carried out through a collaboration between the OPIE and the Department of Foreign Languages ​​and the Office of International Relations of Andijan State University. A memorandum of understanding was signed on August 13 to establish the formal institutional partnership.

“I am delighted that the outcome of the initial OPIE project with ASU has resulted in an agreement between our two universities. ASU is a progressive institution and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship, ”said OPIE Director Gerry Krzic, Ph.D ..

OHIO stakeholders and leaders met with delegates throughout the week to explore possibilities for collaboration. Delegates included Dr Farhod Alimov, Head of the International Department; Dr Dilshodbek Rustamov, Dean of the Faculty of English Language and Literature; Dr. Shohida Shahabitdinova, Dean of the Faculty of Distance Education; and Dr Dilrabo Ahmadalieva, professor at the Faculty of English Language and Literature.

Delegates also attended the International Education Week gala as special guests and met many members of the OHIO community at an open conference Welcome reception. Photos of these events can be found here.

Currently, activities include the joint English language training program, titled “Enhancing English Language Education in Uzbekistan”, which is funded by the American councils for international education as part of the Central Asia University Partnerships Program (UniCEN) initiative. Currently, ASU and OHIO students are participating in an international online Honors College project (HC2905) with students from Russia (National Research University – Higher School of Economics, or HSE-PERM) and Japan ( Chubu University) taught by Krzic.

ASU and OPIE plan to collaborate on another online program for 2022 that will involve training in English and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for undergraduates.

This partnership aims to recruit ASU students into OHIO graduate programs, deliver English-language training and education programs to ASU students, and foster research projects and collaborative exchange for students and teachers.
