Putin to attend opening ceremony of Beijing Olympics

Moscow [Russia]China News Service, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics on February 4 and hold a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“We are preparing for an official Russia-China summit… Putin, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, will visit Beijing on February 4, the opening day of the Olympics. On the same day, full-scale negotiations at the highest level will take place. The level will happen,” Sputnik quoted Raf Roff’s words.
Lavrov said the talks would cover all relations between Russia and China.
According to RIA Novosti, Lavrov further stated that he will hold a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on February 3.

Meanwhile, according to the International News, Prime Minister Imran Khan will also visit China next month to attend the opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Olympics and discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.
The announcement that Putin and Imran Khan will take part in the event comes after Western countries announced a boycott.
The United States, Britain, Australia and Canada have declared a diplomatic boycott of the event, with North Korea the latest country to pull out, citing the outbreak.
While athletes from around the world will travel to compete in the four-year event, dignitaries from these Western nations are not expected to watch.
Western countries, including the United States, have boycotted the Beijing Olympics, citing China’s recent poor human rights record, including its actions against Uighurs and Tibetans. (ANI)
