Netflix UK Launch Ad Supported Plan and Give 720p to Basic Plan

[ad_1]

The global internet video streaming giant, Netflix, has announced that it will launch a cheaper ‘Basic with Adverts’ plan that costs just 4.99 per month on 3rd November 2022 at 4pm GMT. On top of that, those who take their existing 6.99 ‘Basic’ plan will gain access to higher resolution video content (720p instead of just 480p).

The new ‘Basic with Adverts’ plan will, for the first time, require customers to view a total of 4-5 minutes worth of ads for every hour of content they watch (each ad will normally be around 15-30 seconds long). The new plan will initially also have access to slightly less content (5-10% less) than their other plans due to licensing restrictions, which Netflix is hoping to remedy. The ads plan also removes the ability to download content.

Otherwise, the new plan is the same as their ‘Basic’ plan, including with the addition of 720p quality video streaming (due to be introduced from 1st November 2022) – this is arguably a much more significant change than the introduction of the new plan , depending upon your perspective. Both plans still only allow you to stream content to a single device.

Being ISPreview it’s incumbent upon us to point out that Netflix requires customers to have a minimum download speed of 1Mbps to stream at 480p and 3Mbps for 720p, which shouldn’t be a problem for the vast majority of people these days.
