Calgary police are warning the public about a man described as a high-risk sex offender who has been released from jail.

Shaun Gerard Desruisseaux, 43, was released to the Calgary area on statutory release on Thursday after serving two-thirds of a 15-year sentence for a series of sexual assaults on strangers, police said in a press release.

Desruisseaux was convicted of criminal offenses between 2008 and 2011 in southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan.

He targeted women and a teenager who were unknown to him.

Police said the decision to issue a warning about Desruisseaux’s release was made after concluding it was in the public interest.

“Members of the public are advised that the intent of the process is to enable members of the public to take appropriate precautionary measures and not engage in any form of vigilante action,” police said.

According to the conditions of his release, he will be supervised by the Correctional Service of Canada in conjunction with the Calgary police, if necessary.

Desruisseaux is five-foot-11, weighs 235 pounds, and has hazel eyes and graying brown hair.
