Partner Michele Madera helps deliver food to Afghan families at Philadelphia International

[ad_1]

Recently, more than 500 Afghan refugees landed at Philadelphia International Airport, where they needed to be quickly processed and transported to locations across the United States, where they would receive food and other housing.

Unfortunately, on August 30, transport was delayed and 40 people were stranded at the airport without access to food until a ride to their next location could be arranged. Fortunately, a group of volunteers, including Klasko’s own Michele Madera, quickly sprang into action.

According The Philadelphia Investigator, chef Jose Andres of World Chef Kitchen, restaurant owner Judy Li and Too Good To Go waste prevention organization representative Abbe Stern have reached out to Pasha’s Philly and Healthy Picks Deli for help. Restaurants quickly agreed to provide 40 halal meals each to new arrivals while waiting for transport. Volunteers were needed to pick up and deliver the meals at the airport and Judy Ni’s contact, Jill Fink, executive director of the non-profit small business relief organization The Merchants Fund, was ready to help. Jill then reached out to Klasko’s partner Michele Madera to ask for help with the relief effort. Michele was happy to lend a hand. Thanks to those who organized and volunteered, the hot meals were delivered to the airport and delivered to Afghan families within three hours.
