President Xi Jinping: President Xi Jinping held informal talks with Macron in China | International

Chinese President Xi Jinping held an informal meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou on Friday. While presiding over a tea ceremony for Macron, Xi spoke proudly of the development of Guangdong, an economic powerhouse in southern China. In a Chinese-style garden at the Guangdong governor’s residence, Xi praised Guangdong’s role as a bellwether and said the region would boost the development of emerging industries and high-end technologies. Macron is wrapping up a three-day visit to China during which he raised the issue of the Ukraine war with Chinese leaders. He pointed to China’s support for the UN Charter, which calls for respect for the country’s territorial integrity. In earlier talks, Macron called on Xi to bring Russia to its senses and bring everyone back to the negotiating table. Earlier on Friday, Macron met with students at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou.
