[ad_1]

Sunderland will join millions across the UK with its own special celebration to mark the coronation of King Charles III.

Six large screens have been lined up to help communities across the city join in the celebrations, with people invited to bring the whole family to watch the historic event live as it unfolds on Saturday May 6.

The free Coronation screenings take place at:

  • Keel Square in Sunderland city center
  • Hylton Castle in Castletown
  • Barnes Park
  • Town Moor, east end
  • The Galleries Mall, Washington

Marion Dixon, Deputy Director of Regulatory Services at Sunderland City Council, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for communities across the city to come together to celebrate this historic occasion.

“We want everyone to have a great time, so we are working closely with Sunderland BID and partners in Sunderland communities to make it a special and memorable day for everyone who comes with us.

“There will be something for everyone with free and fun family activities during the majority of screenings, so we encourage people to pack a picnic and bring the whole family to watch this historic event live. .”

A program loaded with entertainment is organized around several screenings.

Place of the keel – 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

At Keel Square, the free screening is just part of an event that will see hours of fun, including everything from stilt-walking royalty and a Punch and Judy show to face painting and glitter.

Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council have set up a range of family events to help people enjoy the historic occasion together.

This includes:

  • Entertainment for children
  • Workshops
  • Mini golf and ride characters
  • Food and drink stalls offering cuisine from around the world, including companies such as Burger Bros and Mexican shopkeeper Don’t You Know I’m Loco, and outlets selling noodle dishes, ice cream and sweets.
  • The Bridges Shopping Center will also host singers performing songs from all years and a giveaway of Coronation cookies.

Sharon Appleby, chief executive of Sunderland BID, thinks it will be a fantastic day.

“Almost everyone across the country will want to do something memorable on this historic occasion and watching the coronation on the big screen will be extra special,” she said.

“Hopefully our program of events will be suitable for people of all ages and we are sure people will enjoy coming together and celebrating the official ascension of King Charles III to the throne.”
