2027 Women’s World Cup hosts: joint bid by USA and Mexico among four expressions of interest

FIFA has received four expressions of interest from potential host countries for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

Brazil, South Africa, a joint bid from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany and a joint bid from the United States and Mexico are the four interested parties.

The hosts of the 2027 Women’s World Cup are expected to be named by the FIFA Congress via a public vote on May 17, 2024.

All four bidders have until May 19, 2023 to send FIFA a copy of the bid agreement, a document ensuring that the key principles of the bid process are adhered to and confirming their involvement.

We are delighted with the expressions of interest received, not least because they come from member associations with a strong footballing tradition representing four confederations, confirming the continued popularity of women’s football around the world, said FIFA Secretary General , Fatma Samoura.

All Member Associations can count on the strongest and most comprehensive bidding process in the history of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Among the potential candidates for 2027, Germany and the United States are the only countries to have already hosted the Women’s World Cup. The United States hosted the tournament in 1999 and 2003, while Germany was the host country in 2011.

The 2023 World Cup is hosted by Australia and New Zealand, marking the first women’s tournament to be held in two countries. A tournament in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany would be the first Women’s World Cup held in three countries.

Either Brazil or South Africa would go down in history if selected as the hosts of the 2027 tournament, as the Women’s World Cup has never before been hosted in South America or Africa.
